Why you need probiotics
Probiotics are more important to more parts of our health than previously understood. Much of our well-being is tied to our gut. It is proven that probiotics:
Helps with digestion
Creates some forms of vitamins that we need
HUGE role in our immune function
Major Determinant in weight management (body composition)
Much of our brain chemistry is produced in our gut by friendly bacteria
Aids Hormonal Health
What KILLS good gut health?
Overuse of Antibiotics
Excess alcohol: Mild use is okay, that is 1-2 drinks occasionally. Can actually help with stress reduction and in the case of Red Wine, some nutritional benefit. NO binge drinking. Drunk=damaged gut health. (the exception here is candida, in that case, zero alcohol consumption is the only acceptable choice)
Lack of sleep or poor sleep
Negative stress
Smoking- 100% NO.
Low prebiotic intake: you have to get fiber in your diet. Prebiotics are what feeds probiotics. This consists of any digestion resistant fiber.
Don’t believe the hype!
Refrigerated probiotics are not effective. Your body kills them when ingested. If they don’t make it to the common bile duct, they do nothing and provide you zero benefit. In addition, you do not know if the packaging has stayed at or below the acceptable temperature range, let alone sitting in your car on the way home.
Excess billion counts or wide variety of probiotics do NOT help, this is all label-hype. If it has 35 strains, you are not getting an effective dose of the ones that matter.
There are 3 that you need:
Lactobacillus Acidophilus
Bifidobacterium Bifidus
Bifidobacterium Longum
That’s it, period. These three make up the majority of your health but bacteria and are the best at promoting the growth of the other varieties of good gut bacteria.
